Pet Twin ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. Pet Twin does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the app.
1. What we collect
Device identifier
We assign each installation a random device ID (a UUID generated on your device). This is not linked to your name, Apple ID, or any personally identifiable information. It is used to:
- Track your daily match quota (free tier: 15 matches/day)
- Prevent abuse and rate limiting
- Associate your pet profile with your device if you join the Twin Network
Photos you submit for matching
When you take or upload a photo to find a twin, the image is sent to our server to generate an AI embedding (a mathematical representation of the image). The photo itself is not permanently stored on our servers. Only the embedding is used for matching. The image is discarded after processing.
Pet profile (optional, Twin Network)
If you choose to add your pet to the Twin Network, we store:
- Your pet's photo (thumbnail)
- Your pet's name and breed (if provided)
- Your device ID (to associate the pet with your device)
This data is stored in our database so other users can find your pet as a twin result. You can remove your pet and all associated data at any time from within the app.
Match history
We store records of matches associated with your device ID — which pets were matched and the similarity scores. This powers your profile statistics, leaderboard ranking, and match history view.
Push notification token
If you grant permission for push notifications, we store an Apple Push Notification token associated with your device ID. This is used only to send you in-app notifications (e.g. "Your pet found a new twin"). You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
IP address and usage logs
We log IP addresses for rate limiting and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days and are not used for any other purpose.
2. How we use your data
- To provide and improve the twin-matching service
- To enforce daily usage limits and prevent abuse
- To power the leaderboard, pet profiles, and Twin Network features
- To send push notifications you have opted into
- To diagnose technical issues
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.
3. Third-party services
Jina AI
We use Jina AI's API to generate image embeddings. When you submit a photo for matching, the image is sent to Jina AI for processing. Jina AI processes the image solely to return an embedding and does not store images beyond the API call. See Jina AI's Privacy Policy.
Supabase
Our database and backend infrastructure runs on Supabase, hosted in the EU. Supabase stores the data described above (device IDs, pet profiles, match history, push tokens). See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
Apple App Store / StoreKit
In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We receive only a transaction confirmation from Apple and do not receive your payment information. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
Apple Push Notification Service (APNs)
Push notifications are delivered via Apple's infrastructure. We pass your notification token to Apple to deliver messages. Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Data retention
- Search photos: not retained — discarded after embedding generation
- Embeddings and match history: retained while you use the app; deleted upon request
- Pet profiles (Twin Network): retained until you remove your pet from the network or request deletion
- Push tokens: retained until you revoke notification permission or uninstall the app
- IP address logs: deleted after 30 days
5. Children's privacy
Pet Twin is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data through our app, please contact us and we will delete it.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of the data we hold about your device
- Request deletion of your data
- Remove your pet from the Twin Network at any time via the app
- Revoke push notification permission at any time via iOS Settings

7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version is always available at pettwin.app/privacy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
